Krueger's True Value was opened at the location of 107 W. Wisconsin Ave. in 1866 by William Krueger. Throughout the years, William and his descendants expanded the store eventually including a fine furniture section which was later sold after Billy Krueger's death. In 1972, however, the family moved their operations to 999 Winneconne Ave. in order to allow for more room. Shortly after, they built a new service department and warehouse. This move tripled the store size. In 1987 they finally purchased the building in which the store is now located and this allowed them to begin selling building materials such as lumber, drywall, etc.
1990 called for a major remodeling of the store, which opened up the space and added new, more modern decor. In the next few years they not only built their lumber drive-thru facility, but also established their Just Ask Rental department that allowed people to rent tools and power equipment. In 2005 the store went through another major remodeling that directed the store towards a more "easy to shop" format.
The store celebrated its 150th Anniversary in 2016. At their new location, the brother duo of Brian Webb and James Barnett Webb, Jr. own and run the store with an effective team of employees that are very geared towards customer service.
